Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Junior Lab Trainer to support the development of analysts within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment. This role is dedicated to the delivery of structured, hands-on training programmes, ensuring analysts build strong technical foundations, operate in full compliance with cGMP standards, and are equipped to perform confidently and competently in the laboratory. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the onboarding experience and ongoing development of our analytical team.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery & Analyst Development
Conduct laboratory inductions for new analysts, covering EHS requirements, glassware cleaning procedures, and daily laboratory processes.
Deliver structured, hands-on training in core analytical techniques and laboratory procedures, including balances, pipettes, pH, conductivity, UV spectroscopy, FTIR, and Karl Fischer.
Organise, schedule, and prioritise training sessions in collaboration with analysts and Team Leads to ensure training plans are followed and deadlines are met.
Observe and assess analysts as they perform tasks for the first time, providing constructive feedback, answering questions, and reinforcing GMP principles throughout.
Review analysts' practical work during training to verify accuracy, technique, and compliance before sign-off.
Adapt training delivery style to suit varying levels of experience and learning needs, ensuring all analysts are supported to reach competency.
Identify and address knowledge gaps or recurring trends through targeted refresher training and one-to-one coaching where required.
Training Administration & Compliance
Track and record training completion accurately, maintaining up-to-date training documentation in line with GMP and regulatory requirements.
Ensure all analysts formally acknowledge and demonstrate understanding of new or updated SOPs as part of the change management process.
Assist with the review and update of SOPs to ensure training materials remain current, accurate, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
Support audit readiness by ensuring training records, competency assessments, and onboarding documentation are complete and audit-ready at all times.
Maintain inventory and stock of training materials, ensuring resources are consistently available for onboarding and ongoing training programmes.
Continuous Improvement
Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen and optimise the training programme, onboarding processes, and competency assessment frameworks.
Contribute to the development of new training content, practical exercises, and assessments that reflect current laboratory best practice.
Work closely with the Training Programme Manager and Lead Trainer to align training delivery with operational priorities and compliance requirements.
Technical Proficiency
Candidates should possess hands-on experience with:
Analytical Techniques & Instrumentation
Balances, pipettes, pH meters, and conductivity meters
UV Spectroscopy
FTIR
Karl Fischer
Desirable
HPLC and Dissolution experience is advantageous but not essential
Software
LIMS experience desirable
Empower3 familiarity an advantage
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (Level 8) in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Biology, Materials Science, or similar technical discipline.
Minimum 1 years’ experience in a GMP regulated laboratory environment.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with core analytical laboratory techniques as listed above.
Good familiarity with GMP environments and a good understanding of laboratory compliance requirements.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to deliver training to groups and individuals at varying levels.
Detail-oriented, with strong organisational and documentation skills.
A genuine interest in training, coaching, and the development of others.
