Role Summary
The Lab Aide provides practical and administrative support to laboratory staff, helping to ensure the laboratory operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures. The role includes preparing and maintaining laboratory areas, handling supplies and equipment, assisting with routine laboratory activities, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare laboratory workspaces, equipment, materials, and supplies for daily activities.
· Clean, organise, and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
· Assist laboratory staff with routine procedures and sample or material preparation, where appropriately trained.
· Receive, label, store, and distribute laboratory supplies and materials.
· Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and inventory management.
· Dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with safety and environmental procedures.
· Follow laboratory health and safety procedures, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Chill rotations
· Report equipment faults, safety concerns, spills, or other issues promptly.
· Support laboratory staff with general administrative and operational tasks as required.
· Participate in relevant training and maintain required safety and compliance standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
· Secondary school qualification or equivalent.
· Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to follow written procedures and instructions accurately.
· Good communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to work safely and responsibly in a laboratory environment.
· Basic computer literacy.
Desirable:
· Previous experience working in a laboratory, healthcare, scientific, educational, or similarly controlled environment.
· Relevant laboratory or science-related qualification.
· Familiarity with laboratory equipment, materials, and safety procedures.
· Experience with inventory management or laboratory record keeping.

Physical / Working Requirements
The role may involve standing for extended periods, moving laboratory supplies or equipment, wearing PPE, and working with laboratory materials in accordance with established risk assessments and safety procedures.
